Science Museum of Minnesota
Kitty Anderson Youth Science Center Evaluation, 2014 to 2017.
Rainbow Research was the evaluator of a three-year National Science Foundation grant to the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) to promote and support the interests, skills and opportunities of youth from under-represented ethnic and socio-economic groups to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This innovative project combines youth leadership, service-learning and experiential education to increase and apply STEM knowledge to improve the community and increase the likelihood that more girls and people of color will pursue STEM careers.
We conducted pre-post test surveys with young people in the program and with a comparison group of youth in another youth program to determine the extent to which KAYSC have gained more interest in and knowledge about STEM concepts, and have changed attitudes about careers in STEM.
