Why I Work At Rainbow Research

Selam at the American Evaluation Association 2017 Conference in Washington, D.C.

When done super well, evaluation and research is conducted in a way that centers and lifts the voices of communities that are the most impacted by programming and funding. However the history of evaluation proves that we have a lot of work to do to restructure the field to be a powerful tool that aids to advance equity and social change. At Rainbow Research, I believe we are aware that the work is cut out for us to challenge the status quo of evaluation and research methodologies.

Rainbow Research has intentionally brought on board people that have diverse experiences and skill-sets, and are working to create intersections where evaluation meets social change and equity – at or outside of work environments. Now, that is not to say that we are excelling at it and are experts on this. No – not at all. We are faced with challenges that range from the personal (“I am exhausted”) to the black box of funding pipeline/structures (we are a nonprofit, after all). But we energize ourselves by going after project opportunities that let us dream a little about the world we would like to live in, and by making new connections with amazing community-based organizations whose work we can learn from and support. And that is why I work at Rainbow Research.
